Shoreline

My Shoreline series of hand-thrown sculptural and domestic ware is inspired by pebbles found on walks along the Suffolk and Pembrokeshire coasts. Shaped through processes akin to coastal erosion, each piece is forged through the reductive and refining acts of turning, incising and scouring. Veins of slip inlaid across contrasting stoneware bodies draw the eye to the vessel’s surface and the natural beauty of its materials. These visual fissures, diverging and rejoining, move from the scale of collected beach shingle to evoke traced lines of tide-marks, seafoam and craggy foreshores.
